Q+A WITH OUR FOUNDER

Q+A WITH OUR FOUNDER

A closer look at how BLANK came to life, with Founder Gracie Drennan.

WHAT WAS YOUR PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE WORKING IN FASHION BEFORE STARTING BLANK?

I spent the last six years working in the fashion industry, primarily in product development. Much of my time was spent understanding how garments truly come to life, the fabrics, the fit, the construction, the trims, and the makers behind them.
I’ve always been fascinated by that process. The story of how something begins as an idea and becomes a piece you wear, its a really exciting process to be apart of.
I was also lucky to have mentors who shaped the way I think, women who taught me about sustainable materials, ethical manufacturing, and the responsibility we carry as creators. Their influence had a huge impact on the values I now pour into BLANK.
Those experiences formed the foundation of how I see clothing today: through the lens of craftsmanship, intention, and care.

WHAT SPARKED YOUR INTEREST IN SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS AND ETHICAL MANUFACTURING?

In product development, you learn quickly that the biggest impact happens long before a piece reaches the customer, it’s in the fibers, the factories, and the processes.
I became really curious about natural, low-impact fabrics and about the people behind our clothes. I learned how different fibers behave, how certifications work, and what responsible production looks like.
Once you see the difference sustainable choices can make, you can’t unsee it. That passion became the foundation of BLANK.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START BLANK?

It grew from a combination of passion and lifestyle.
My partner and I travel full-time due to his career, and I wanted to build something meaningful that could exist with me wherever we are in the world. Something rooted in purpose, not geography.
BLANK became that. A brand shaped by movement, curiosity, and a commitment to make clothing that’s honest, responsible, and long-lasting.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE HEART OF BLANK?

Thoughtful design, natural fibers, and ethical craft.
Everything we create begins with a question: “How can this be made better?” or "How was this made?" "Who made this?"
BLANK is about slowing down, choosing consciously, and honoring the people and materials behind every garment.

WHAT DO YOU HOPE PEOPLE FEEL WHEN THEY WEAR BLANK?

Ease. Confidence. Connection.
These are the feelings I want every BLANK piece to carry. My own wardrobe has always been built around simplicity, a pair of well-made pants, a T-shirt that feels good against the skin, pieces I can wear on repeat without thinking twice.
When I created BLANK, I wanted to design the essentials I personally reach for every day. Pieces that reflect my values: comfort, quality, and a quiet kind of refinement.
More than anything, I hope people feel proud knowing their clothing supports ethical production, skilled artisans, and a slower, kinder way of making.

WHAT'S NEXT FOR BLANK?

Growth at a slow, steady pace. More natural fibers, more refined essentials, and deeper relationships with our makers in China and Peru.
But above all my main focus is continuing to educate, create consciously, and inspire people to ask more questions about where their clothing comes from.

xx
